Pricing Transparency & Guidelines
While prices for the professional writing of life histories, ghost-written biographies and memoirs can easily reach into tens of thousands of dollars, Chapters to Life takes a slightly different, more personal approach that also favors efficiency and, therefore, greater affordability. You will tell your story, and I will largely preserve your words rather than rewrite, alter and embellish them. While I will organize your narrative for flow and clarity, and supply some “connective tissue” as needed, your responses in our interviews are the heart of the material.
Accordingly, a Chapters to Life book typically ranges from $8,000 to $10,000 — with an audio file included at no additional charge. The base fee will start at a flat $8,000 and will increase only if the scope of the project grows beyond what’s specified in the initial agreement: if extra interviews, additional photos or research, or more time are needed midway through the process. My role is to keep us focused and on track toward a $8,000 project completion, and I will provide progress updates as we go, alerting you to any potential increases ahead so we can adjust to contain costs, if needed.
Prices include printing and delivery of one 6-by-9 or 8.5-by-11 book, paperback or hard cover, up to 150 (8.5-by-11) or 200 (6-by-9) pages. Extra copies of books may be ordered from the publisher for an additional fee.
